MUSIC TO EARS: Quiz programme on Carnatic music being held in Srirangam on Sunday. —
TIRUCHI: With a view to enhancing knowledge in music, the Sri Guru Guha Gana Sabha in Srirangam organised a quiz on music as part of its sixth anniversary on Sunday.
The effort evoked an overwhelming response from music-lovers. Men, women and young music learners of different age-groups turned out in good strength and participated.
A wide range of queries on different topics was posed. Clues were also provided to facilitate the participants, particularly young boys and girls. About 100 questions on ‘ragams’, great musicians, outstanding contribution to Carnatic music, the names of “Music Trinity” kindled the interest of the participants.
At the end of each question, a brief history about the significance of the ‘ragam’ or the personality was presented to the audience. The audience was given adequate opportunity to share their knowledge about music. “We selected the questions so as to promote the interest of the participants. The questions were not only simple and direct but also thought-provoking,” says Sabha co-ordinator Mythily Jagannathan. Headmistress of Sri Akilandeswari Vidhyalaya Kalyani Venkataraman gave away the prizes. Ms. Jagannathan said that the Sabha had chalked out a special programme to celebrate the national poet Subramania Bharathiar’s birth anniversary this year. Concerts on Bharathiar’s songs would be held.

Hats off to the lady behind this program. You need to have indepth knowledge to create a quiz and along with it goes the creativity to present it to the younger generation. Awesome work, wished I could be a part of it...
