Continuation of Sri Purandara Dasar
Once a brahmin man came to Srinavasans house and begged from him to give money to perform his sons upanayanam. Sri Purandara Dasar was not interested in helping him because he never had a mind to do any DHANAM.But his wife wanted to help the poor man. she had no money to give. After thinking for a long time she decided to give away her diamond nostril to the bhrahmin to perform the upanayanam of his son. She took out the nose ring and gave it to the bhrahmin ,the next day when the brahmin came. Now the brahmin after taking the nose ring went to Purandara Dasa to sell the same and make money and make arrangements for the ceremony. As soon as Sri Purandara Dasar saw the ring he could smell that this ring was his wifes. So he asked the brahmin to wait and ran home to see if his wifes nose ring was with her. He knew very well that the quality of his wifes ring was the best and no one could buy that type of nose ring other than him.As soon as he came home his wife was scared and she did not know what to do. She just prayed to lord Krishna for help.Sudddenly she heard a sound and found the same nostril in her hand. She gave it to her husband and told him about how she gave the brahmin the nose ring and that how the ring had come to her back. She could feel that god alone could do this LEELA . But this was turning point in Sri Purandara Dasar s life. He could feel how much time he had wasted in making money and not praying to the LORD KRISHNA.He realised the ANANDA of singing in praise of Sri Krishna which he had missrd all these days.He has sung in his compositionNINNA DHYANAVA KODUVA ENNA DHANYANA MADOO ,the first composition with a mudra PURADARA VTTALA and has expressed his sorrow for wasting all his life . He later gave away all his wealth to the poor and started a new life. He did UNCHAVRITHI and lived a happy and contented life.Hebecame the desciple of SriVyasaraja and composed many songs in praise of Krishna. It is believed that Sri Purandara Dasar has composed 4 laks ofsongs and we could get only a few thousands .
